At Perline Chiropractic we strive to make your first visit to our office a comfortable one. Christine, the office manager, will personally welcome you and ask you to complete our patient forms. These forms will give us important information about you, and help us to understand your condition. Patient forms are available to you on this website and you will save time on your first visit if you fill them out in advance. We know your time is valuable and we try very hard to keep the time you must wait to see the doctor to a minimum.
Dr. Shelley will spend time asking specific questions about your condition in order to determine if chiropractic care is right for you. She will explain to you the philosophy of chiropractic and describe to you how a chiropractic adjustment is delivered. If she determines chiropractic care is not the answer she can help refer you to another doctor.
If clinically necessary, Dr. Shelley will then perform a paraspinal surface electromyograhic scan (sEMG) on your spine. The purpose of the scan is to assess paraspinal muscle activity and compare it to a normative database. The initial EMG study helps provide diagnostic information and aids in creating a treatment plan designed specifically for you. Re-evaluations will monitor your response to care, help in determining changes that should be made to your care plan and help determine when you have reached ‘maximal improvement.’ The scan enables Dr. Shelley to provide you with objective ‘hard copy’ documentation of your muscle balance and spinal alignment as you move along in your care.
After your sEMG, Dr. Shelley will perform a complete chiropractic examination, including but not limited to range of motion, neurological, orthopedic, and postural tests. Information derived from these evaluations will give Dr. Shelley a better understanding of your condition and help her to determine if chiropractic care can help you. You may be referred for an x-ray or for more advanced imaging if necessary.
Once the information is collected and the examinations performed, Dr. Shelley will give you a detailed report of her findings. She will propose a specific care plan for you, including appropriate postural changes and strengthening exercises. You will be given the best treatment and wellness program designed to meet your goals.
Everything Dr. Shelley does on your first visit is explained to you in detail and performed only after receiving your consent.
